Bridges are fascinating engineering feats that bring countries, states, and communities together. In A Book of Bridges: Here to There and Me to You, the author gives information on the history and types of bridges and also writes about the human connection that bridges build. Bridges by Virginia Loh-Hagan focuses on the engineering aspect of bridge building. The activities included with the bundle center around responding to questions about reading, researching different types of bridges and the science behind bridge building, comparing and contrasting information from two different sources, and building and testing a bridge. The activities also use three short videos to strengthen student understanding of the engineer’s role and how to build and strengthen a bridge. Students are also encouraged to share their learning, generate their own questions, and reflect on their learning. Great for media specialists and teachers looking for standards-based activities to aid in the support of remote learning or for parents wanting to help or enhance their child’s education with content-rich books and activities!
