Polly Horvath grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and moved to Canada when she went to college in Toronto. She has written numerous books for children including the National Book Award-winning The Canning Season and Newbery Honor book, Everything on a Waffle. Her books have received many honors and awards in the United States and Canada including two Boston Globe Horn Book Award honors, Parent Choice Awards, National Book Finalist for The Trolls, Canadian Library Association Book of the Year, ALA Notable Books, Sheila Egoff Award and many others. M is for Mountie is her first book with Sleeping Bear Press. She lives with her family in Metchosin, British Columbia.

Lorna Bennett attended Grant MacEwan Community College and the University of Alberta in the Arts/Fine Arts program. She has worked as a ski instructor, designer, writer, illustrator and animator. Her previous children's picture books include Sandwiches for Duke and Dot to Dot in the Sky. Lorna has toured with the Young Alberta Book Society's Chrysalis Festival, teaching art in elementary schools. She makes her home in Edmonton, Alberta.
