Less than 50 years ago, the discovery of the monarch butterfly’s migration route was made. The book, Winged Wonders: Solving the Monarch Migration Mystery, tells the story of all those who worked to reveal the migration path of monarch butterflies. Mr. McGinty’s Monarchs is the fictional story of a man who enlists the help of school children to help save monarch caterpillars in their community. Activities for this bundle include responding to questions about reading, identifying story elements (setting, characters, main idea, etc.), researching about the importance of milkweed to monarchs, drawing and explaining the monarch butterfly life cycle, and writing about the shrinking population of the butterflies and a plan to help them. Opportunities are provided for students to generate questions and share what they have learned.
