Our nation’s Capitol building features one hundred statues of prominent figures in our history, two from each state, from Tommie Smith and John Carlos to George Washington Carver to Anne Hutchinson. But of these one hundred statues, only nine are people of color and only 12 are women. Currently, though, statues in public places are being added and subtracted to reflect and represent a more diverse set of prominent figures.
